Newcastle best move for troubled Tottenham man

Andros Townsend’s Tottenham Hotspur career appears to be over after a falling out with a fitness coach led to his suspension.

The 24-year-old’s development was stalling as his starts began to dwindle, with this latest setback in danger of bringing it to a screeching halt.

Back in 2013, Townsend was one of Roy Hodgson’s favourite players to select for England, but the winger missed out on selection this time round.

Uncle Roy’s affinity for the London-born winger means if he can find form and a starting place in the Premier League, the Spurs cast off would likely force his way onto the Euro 2016 plane.

The nine-time loanee should look north for his salvation, with rumours of a move to Newcastle United looking like a good option.

Taking away the six scored at Norwich, the Magpies have only netted six times in ten Premier League games.

Florian Thauvin is the only out-and-out winger on the books at St James’ Park to grab a goal this season, with Gabriel Obertan and Yoann Gouffran struggling for form and performances.

Furthermore, Steve McClaren seems unwilling to utilise these wide men as none of them have played more than 300 minutes this season, with this lack of width hurting the front line.

In Aleksandar Mitrovic they possess a strong aerial presence which they should utilise by getting the ball out wide and looking to pick him out.

Townsend could establish himself as the first-choice winger at the club and help alleviate these problems.

Despite his troubles at White Hart Lane, he’s managed to provide an assist this season by making the best of his measly two starts.

During the 2012/13 season with QPR, his best run of starts, he averaged four dribbles a game proving he possesses the directness out wide that McClaren’s side are currently missing.

Townsend’s addition would help cure Newcastle’s attacking problems by given them a proven out-and-out winger to provide the goods.

Playing well for the Toon would help him get back in to the Three Lions’ set up meaning this would be a match made in heaven.
