Momentum building for struggling BvB man’s Liverpool move

With the January transfer window just around the corner, certain pockets of the Premier League are ablaze with excitement about potential signings, particularly clubs with new managers determined to imprint their personality on the team, such as Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.
Linking Klopp to former charges at Borussia Dortmund was inevitable, although unfortunately for Kopites there hasn’t been too much talk of silky forward Marco Reus yet, but Serbian centre-half Neven Subotic certainly looks on the cards for an Anfield switch.
Quotes from BvB general manager Michael Zorc have slipped into the ether via German newspaper Bild, with the 53-year-old reported as saying of Subotic:
“It’s an unusual and difficult situation for him. Neven is taking it professionally, but he is obviously not happy.”
Other reported comments from the same news source tell a slightly different story, with Zorc also quoted saying:
“We are still in the first half of the season. From our end, there are no considerations with regard to releasing him…But we will discuss the situation [with regards to his contract] with him eventually, of course.”
These aren’t exactly ringing endorsements for a player who can’t get a game at the moment, with Mats Hummels, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Matthias Ginter and even nominal midfielder Sven Bender ahead of Subotic in the centre-half ranks under coach Thomas Tuchel.
The 26-year-old has made just one Bundesliga appearance all term, all the way back in August in a 4-0 win over Ingolstadt, with his only other outing of any kind coming away to PAOK Salonika in the Europa League nine weeks ago, a match BvB drew 1-1.
After signing Subotic from Mainz on a five-year deal within weeks of taking over at Dortmund in 2008, having just left the same club himself, Klopp going in full pelt for his former charge in January makes perfect sense.
Besides, if Tuchel still wants the player, he has a funny way of showing it.
