Norwich priced up generously in unique Premier League market

One of the unique Premier League markets currently available to Ladbrokes customers is which team will end the season as the top-flight’s lowest goalscorers and a quick glimpse hints that there is clear value among those at bigger prices.

Aston Villa both prop up the Premier League and the scoring stakes through the opening 15 matches of the season, netting only 13 times in this period.

Therefore, it is no surprise that Remi Garde’s men are 13/5 to end the campaign with the fewest goals. However, Villa do have goals in their ranks with summer signings Rudy Gestede and Jordan Ayew reaching double figures respectively for Blackburn and Lorient last season.

Furthermore, Villa will surely improve on all aspects of their game in the second half of the season, especially once becoming more accustomed to the demands of their relatively now boss.

Like Villa, Stoke (11/2) have only scored 13 goals, but with attacking talents Xherdan Shaqiri and Ibrahim Afellay beginning to blossom, alongside last season’s top scorer Mame Biram Diouf to return to regular action, they are bankers to improve.

On 14 goals are Swansea (7/1) and West Brom (7/2), while Newcastle (11/1) have 16.

All of this trio could be considered generous prices, but the stand-out enticing bet has to be Norwich at 14/1.

The Canaries have only managed four more goals than Villa and Stoke, but interestingly have only netted three times across their last six Premier League fixtures since manager Alex Neil slightly abandoned his attacking philosophy following the 6-2 reverse against Newcastle.

In this same six-game period, Norwich have had the fewest shots from inside opposing penalty boxes of all 20 Premier League clubs.

This is especially worrying as even if the Canaries were creating an abundance of chances, they don’t have a striker that many would bank on to reach a double-figure goal tally.

In Cameron Jerome’s last three Premier League seasons prior to this one, he managed nine goals in almost 70 appearances.

Dieumerci Mbokani is still adjusting to the demands of English football and Lewis Grabban is having a first crack at top-flight football after years in the lower leagues. None of this trio have scored more than twice so far.

Norwich don’t have a reliable scorer and aren’t creating many chances – this seems a recipe for disaster in terms of scoring goals. The 14/1 ahead of the clash with Everton on the Canaries ending the campaign with the lowest goal tally looks a brilliant price.
