Three post-Chelsea destinations for Jose Mourinho disciple

The reign of Jose Mourinho at Chelsea is over (again) and fans of the Blues have been quick to express their anger and sadness.

However, no one appears to be more upset than the Blues’ skipper John Terry, with rumours floating round the twittersphere that the 35-year-old left the club’s Cobham training ground in tears.

Mourinho has previous with making steely centre-backs well up following his departure, with Marco Materazzi filmed looking devastated when the Portuguese manager left Inter Milan for Real Madrid in 2010.

The loss of a manager who was so integral to Terry becoming a legend at Stamford Bridge could see the former-England captain looking for a way out of west London.

Seeing Terry in the Premier League but not in a Chelsea shirt seems inconceivable, with a trip abroad looking more likely and here’s the nations he’ll be eyeing up:

America

The MLS is fast becoming the preferred destination for ageing stars, with Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Kaka and David Villa all plying their trade stateside.

Reuniting with some fellow members of England’s prophesised golden generation could be a big pull for the centre-back and he would have his pick of American franchises.

Qatar

With the 2022 World Cup only seven years away, the domestic game in Qatar still isn’t the strongest and a marquee signing would be a quick way to help boost the league’s standing.

Bringing in one of the most recognised faces in the Premier League would help do that and, as shown through the MLS, could lead to more players following suit.

In terms of potential options for Terry in the Asian state, Al-Arabi is the name being talked up in rumour mills as the Doha side are currently managed by fellow Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola.

Turkey

Even before the departure of the ‘Special One’ the papers were speculating about a potential Stamford Bridge exit for Terry and two teams kept cropping up.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have been floating around as options for the centre-back since early November, but he’ll need to be careful when making his choice between the fierce rivals.
