Arsenal should avoid PSG star and turn to Man Utd reject

Arsenal have been experimenting with strikers to lead their line all season, with Arsene Wenger switching between Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott.

One way to stop this rotation would be to bring in a proven top-class striker and this has led to rumours that the Gunners are looking for such a player.

Edinson Cavani is being talked up as a £47m target for the north Londoners, but this may not be the wisest move.

The 28-year-old hasn’t finished a Ligue 1 season with more than 18 goals and fans of Paris Saint-Germain are starting to doubt the abilities of one of their marquee signings.

Meanwhile, after being deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United by Louis van Gaal, Javier Hernandez moved to Bayer Leverkusen where has starred.

Mexico’s second all-time highest goal-getter has scored 19 times in 22 games across all competitions for the Bundesliga side and is fourth in the German top-flight’s scoring charts.

Only Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Robert Lewandoswki and Thomas Muller have been more prolific than Chicharito and have done so playing for the two biggest teams in Germany – Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

Bringing in the former Man Utd man would mean bringing in a player that is already accustomed to the Premier League and, as this is a January signing, would make it more beneficial than shelling out for Cavani.

This would be preferable as throwing someone into English football straight away can be a daunting task, especially if they haven’t had a pre-season to prepare themselves.

Furthermore, Hernandez would be a much cheaper investment than the Uruguayan star, with the Gunners likely only needing to make sure Leverkusen make a profit on the £7.5m they parted with to bring him in from Old Trafford.
