Fantasy Football: Generous John needs to discover ruthless streak

Published:

Hot on the heels of midweek hijinks in the Premier League it’s been a quick turnaround heading into gameweek 22.

On the ball Fantasy Football managers have no doubt already made their changes though as we head towards another crucial round of fixtures.

And we can count our Ladbrokes Life quintet amongst that savvy collection of gaffers with each of our heroes ringing in the changes.

Generous John maintains his lead at the top but he’s going to have to rediscover his early season form if he’s to hold off his challengers.

Here’s what’s going down…

#GenerousJohn

The midweek fixtures were disappointing to say the least from a points perspective. A paltry haul of 30 points is the lowest I’ve managed all season and when your highest points earner is Joe Hart for a clean sheet you know it’s been a poor week.

We’re heading towards the business end of the season and every gameweek and point will be vital from here on in.

I’ve decided against making any drastic changes though. That’s risky I know, especially with six of my 11 players all facing off against each other.

But my thinking is to keep two transfers for next week and make a crucial couple of moves that could be the difference at the end of the season.

Man United have a tough fixture against Liverpool on Sunday and it’s a game I’m expecting to see plenty of goals in.

For that reason Smalling makes way for Spurs’ Alderweireld. I’ve also opted for a change in captain and it’s Aguero that’s getting the nod.

City were unlucky not to score against Everton and with another home game this weekend I’m confident Sergio will net.

I hold my hands up and take responsibility for my team’s last performance. The selection was too obvious and we were left frustrated by Affelay sitting on the bench, meaning he racked up 11 unavailable points.

The fixtures keep coming thick and fast so we’ve only have a few days to put things right and keep the pressure on Generous John.

My one change this week sees the ‘best right back in England’ Hector Bellerin coming in for Ryan Shawcross.

I’m going to need a big performance from key players this week with Lukaku and Aguero both shooting blanks on Wednesday.

A good week for me (I’ll use the term lightly) and I have reeled in The Professor to take back my third place in the league.

I believe there’s much more to come from my team, and I can’t see any obvious changes to make, so I’m sticking with them.

At this stage of the season, with all my boosts still available and with my wildcard to hand, I have enough tricks up my sleeve to make a surge up the table.

The midweek fixtures were not kind to Statletico Madrid. With low points scored across the board the Gut Truster has overtaken me and claimed third place.

That said, I’m not making any transfers this week. My squad is full of players that are statistically performing well and I have faith they’ll produce an upturn in performance.

Dele Alli has scored five goals and made three assists this season so he remains in the team, as does Premier League joint-top scorer, Romelu Lukaku.

Watford’s Troy Deeney also makes the starting XI, replacing the injured Philippe Coutinho.

It was an absolutely awful midweek for me.

Martial wasn’t worth the risk, mustering a measly two points.

And with Mitrovic grabbing a goal and an assist, I dropped the big points I’ve been waiting for having chucked him out.

It’s been a trying period but I’m not giving up hope just yet.

I’m placing my faith in Deeney and replacing Martial. Watford face struggling Swansea so I’m expecting my Hornets duo to put some big points on the board.

Butland retains his position between the sticks but I’m still holding out for Sanchez to return from injury in order to really give my season the kick-start it needs.
