Fantasy Football: Man City man makes all the difference this week

Published:

Fantasy Football this week was about two types of people; those who had Sergio Aguero as captain, and those who didn’t.

The Ladbrokes Life quintet were divided when it came to having the Manchester City frontman in their squad, donning the captain’s armband, and it certainly showed.

Leader of the pack Generous John was one of those who kept the faith in the Argentine, as his brace of goals, an assist and three bonus points added 32 points to his total.

That addition alongside clean sheets from Joe Hart, Laurent Koscielny and Chris Smalling, meant John racked up a none-too-shabby 64 points.

The lead he has on his contemporaries was however cut, albeit only slightly.

Fellow Aguero-ite Mr Brightside brought in 65 points, this time the clean sheet bonuses coming courtesy of Jack Butland, Hector Bellerin and Kevin De Bruyne, with the latter adding an assist as well.

The lead between the top two is now just 17 points as we enter the business end of the table, as the duo begin to pull away from the chasing pack.

The Gut Truster was another to have ‘Kun’ as captain, but he could only muster 60 points, with Smalling and Per Mertesacker the only other notable additions to his score.

For the remaining pair it was a case of a missed opportunity, as they avoided the Citizens’ hot-shot in favour of a selection of other strikers.

The Professor’s week was steady without being spectacular, with the Arsenal defensive pair of Bellerin and Petr Cech bringing in 16 points to add to six from Smalling and 10 from Harry Kane.

As for The Believer, his task to avoid the wooden spoon is looking a tougher one by the week, as he was outscored by his chums once again.

Jack Butland (seven points), Mertesacker (six), Eric Dier (five) and Jamie Vardy (eight points as captain) ensured it wasn’t a disaster, but without a world beating score, he lost ground with the gang.

The race for the £100 Free Bet courtesy of Ladbrokes continues in the Ladbrokes Life League, and our leader will be looking over his shoulder with angst as the contenders begin to line up.

Scott Stanley continues to lead the way, but by picking up just 46 points in Gameweek 22, he was outscored by each of the four teams directly below him in the league.

The biggest scorer was Howard Clark with his ‘Class on Grass’ team bringing in an impressive 72 points.

The likes of Ashley Williams, Cech and Kane all brought in double figure scores with the latter given the captain’s armband, meaning his total addition broke the 20-point mark.

There is still plenty of time to go, but the race for the free bet has rarely looked more competitive.
