Kamara: Flying Leicester still not getting the credit they deserve

| 15.01.2016

Written off by many who simply said they would drop away, it seems that Leicester are here to stay in the upper echelons of the Premier League table, and I think it’s fantastic.

Claudio Ranieri’s men have shown to the world that you do not need to spend millions and millions to be successful in the division this season.

I would go as far to say as them winning the title this year would be the best story that has ever come out of the Premier League.

Obviously there is a long way to go yet, and no one has ever won the title in January, but it irks me that they are still not quite getting the praise they deserve.

This week’s victory over Tottenham was a prime example.

Robert Huth’s late header meant that the Foxes had either recorded victories or drawn against four of last season’s top five, but was the talk all positive on Leicester’s part? No, the majority of people focused on Spurs.

The following day I was asked whether the Lilywhites’ defeat at White Hart Lane was a sign that they would ‘bottle it’ again in their push for a second top-four finish in  six seasons.

The way I see it, why is losing to Leicester such an indication that a side won’t finish in the Champions League places?

We are talking about a team that has spent much of the 2015-16 top of the pile, thrilling neutrals up and down the country with their attacking, incisive football.

The question of whether Mauricio Pochettino will guide his side to a place in the elite European club competition remains a pertinent one, but answering it on the back of one game, especially against Leicester would be silly.

There is no shame in losing to Claudio Ranieri’s side this term. They have already shown they can mix it with the best of them.

It’s been a thrilling Premier League campaign this season, and the Foxes have been a major part of that.

I just wish people would stop reacting to a defeat against Leicester as a failing on the part of the losers, and rather take a look at the quality football which Ranieri’s men are producing.
