POLL: Is Simon Mignolet good enough to play for Liverpool?

Published:

Liverpool fans haven’t had a lot to get excited about in this transfer window, and their mood was seemingly worsened by the news Simon Mignolet had signed a new five-year-deal with the club.

The announcement on Liverpool’s official twitter handle was met with little short of despair from Kopites, who have apparently run out of patience with the Belgian goalie.

Mignolet has made over 120 appearances for the red half of Merseyside since joining from Sunderland for £9m in 2013.

His career at Anfield thus far however, has been a rollercoaster of highs and lows.

The 27-year-old posted 15 clean sheets in 2015 – more than any other Premier League goalkeeper – but a succession of errors have frustrated fans and perhaps even Jurgen Klopp who recalled Danny Ward this month from a loan spell at Aberdeen.

The responsibility for two of Arsenal’s three goals in last week’s thrilling 3-3 draw with the Reds could be laid at Mignolet’s door, and with Klopp looking to return Liverpool to trophy-winning quality, many will be wondering if the Belgian is up to the task.

The form of Petr Cech and David de Gea at Arsenal and Manchester United respectively are fine examples of the positive impact a goalkeeper can have on his team, and so for today’s poll we want to know, is Simon Mignolet good enough to play for Liverpool?
