Raith Rovers contemplate deal for Norwegian strike prospect

Raith Rovers boss Ray McKinnon is running the rule over a Norwegian striker as he looks to boost his side’s attacking options.
The Ladbrokes Championship outfit recently bid farewell to Jon Daly and Craig Whiton and while Aidan Connolly and Lois Longridge have arrived from Dundee United and Hamilton respectively McKinnon is still on the lookout for a striker.
Mergim Hereqi could be the man to fill that void and the 23-year-old is on trial at Stark’s Park hoping to make an impression.
Born in Sweden, the 6ft 2in striker worked under Celtic boss Ronny Deila at Stromsgodset and was given a chance on trial at both Rangers and Chelsea.
While the Gers and the Blues failed to follow up their interest the striker has gone on to impress in Scandinavia, netting six goals in 16 games for FK Ørn-Horten and most recently signing for Drammen FK, where he netted a brace in his opening game.
McKinnon said of the striker: “He’s someone who had trials with Chelsea and Rangers when he was younger and he also worked with Ronny Deila in Norway.
“He’ll train with us for the rest of the week and we’ll decide what to do at the end of that time.”
Raith currently lie fourth in the Ladbrokes Championship, level on points with fifth-placed Queen of the South.
While closing the 18-point gap on third-placed Falkirk might be a stretch too far, Rovers will look to cement their play-off credentials when they host the Doonhamers this weekend.
McKinnon’s men go into the tie as 11/8 favourites, while the visitors are on at 33/20 and the draw can be backed at 12/5.
