Tottenham to bounce back from Leicester loss against Sunderland

Published:

Tottenham Hotspur’s mid-week Premier League meeting with Leicester City ended cruelly for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, with Robert Huth’s 83rd-minute header securing a late 1-0 win for the Foxes.

This ended a run in which Spurs had only lost one in 15 in all competitions and the nature of the defeat could make it hard for them to refocus and recapture their previous form.

However, they are fortunate to find themselves up against Sunderland next and a clash with the Mackems will be enough to restore confidence.

Sam Allardyce’s men may have won back-to-back Premier League matches, but those results came against fellow strugglers Aston Villa and Swansea City, before that they had lost five in a row.

Furthermore, the Wearsiders have been defeated in seven of their ten meetings with teams in the top half this season and Spurs should have too much for them.

Pochettino’s side are 7/20 favourites for this encounter and look guaranteed to come good on that, but for those looking for a more profitable punt the latest Ladbrokes’ promotion would be a wise investment.

Backing Tottenham to win and both teams to score was 7/4, but can now be backed at 9/4.

Although not looking set to get any points, Sunderland look likely to find the net and, before this season, had scored in all of their last four meetings with the north Londoners, despite losing three and drawing one in that run.

When looking at those who will put their name on the scoresheet this time around it’s hard to look past Harry Kane, with the England international notching 16 goals across all competitions for club and country this season.

However, Kane has scored as many goals for Tottenham as he has for Sunderland in previous editions of this encounter, managing one strike against the Mackems in a 5-1 win before cancelling that out with an own goal in a 2-2 draw at the Stadium of Light this season.

Furthermore, the 22-year-old has not scored in his last three league outings, meaning it would be wise to invest in someone else for *Ladbrokes’ Double Odds First Goalscorer offer.

Six of the last eight goals in matches between Tottenham and Sunderland have been scored by midfielders, with the other two coming from own goals, and it would make sense to back the first scorer to come from the middle of the park.

In-form Dele Alli seems the most probable to do this, having scored five times for the north Londoners this season, and is priced at 6/1 to register first.
