Kamara: Chelsea captain very clever with his contract admission

| 04.02.2016

In coming out and announcing that he will not be offered another Chelsea contract I think John Terry has been very clever.

By announcing it now he alerts other clubs to his availability and puts Chelsea in a situation where they have a decision to make.

He has said he hoped to finish his career at Stamford Bridge, so the ball is in their court now and they either act on it, or he more than likely ends up in the States.

It’s probably one of the best things he could have done to announce it now and then play so well for the remainder of the season that the club cannot afford to let him go.

Having someone like him in the dressing room is massively important.

The John Terrys of this world, the leaders and organisers, are few and far between these days.

He’s never been the quickest player, but the more experience he got, the better he became and he will go down as one of the greatest Premier League centre halves of all time.

He would be sorely missed in west London if he were to leave, but I think there is plenty more time for things to change.

Guus Hiddink, at this moment of time, is only at the club until the end of the season, so the Dutchman is unable to make any firm decisions as to whether he wants John Terry there next term, because he doesn’t know if he will be at the club himself.

A new man might come in and may decide straight away that he wants to keep Terry in his club, you just don’t know.

One thing is for sure though, Terry has been very clever, as it gives other teams that need someone like him a nudge to say he is available.

While it won’t happen, imagine John Terry in the Manchester City back-line at this moment of time, organising things when Vincent Kompany was absent.

Just having that voice in there to get them through their problems in defence, could be the difference between a title winning season and falling short.

That’s the type of thing that clubs will be thinking about if he is allowed to walk away from Chelsea at the end of the season.
