Man Utd plan to gazump Leicester’s pursuit of Nigerian striker

It may seem like all is quite on the transfer front at Manchester United, but if history tells us anything it’s to expect the unexpected when it comes to deadline-day deals.

Antony Martial’s last-gasp summer switch from Monaco to Old Trafford was the latest in a line of signings made by the Premier League giants in the last few years.

According to the Daily Express, the Red Devils have three strikers lined up as potential new arrivals this winter window, with the most likely of those appearing to be CSKA Moscow’s Ahmed Musa.

The other two that the publication name are Watford surprise package Odion Ighalo and PSG’s Edinson Cavani.

Ighalo, who has been a roaring success in the top flight for the Hornets this term, has been linked with Man Utd already during the season. However, it’s clear that Watford will not be selling their star man this winter as they prioritise stabilising their Premier League future.

Cavani, like Ighalo, has never been too far away from a Manchester United rumour. His arrival would likely be in a loan deal similar to the one that brought Radamel Falcao to Old Trafford last season. The Express, however, can’t see lightening striking twice.

That leaves Musa, who has been tracked by Leicester as they seek to sign a striker to support Jamie Vardy. Rumours around the media hint that the Foxes and CSKA Moscow have failed to find an agreeable fee for the striker, which could leave the door ajar for United.

Musa has scored six goals in 18 league outings for his Russian club this season and would join a Man United squad rated 8/5 to finish in the top four this campaign.
