Is McGregor v Diaz over before it’s even started?

Published:

Nate Diaz’s hopes of beating Conor McGregor may have already been dashed after the American taunted the Notorious at their final press event.

Posing for the head-to-head Diaz angered McGregor by waving a fist in his face and the Irishman reacted in typically explosive fashion by swinging a left hook and connecting with Diaz’s hand.

In the ensuing melee Diaz can be seen grimacing and clutching his hand in worrying scenes for anyone hoping the Californian can halt McGregor’s rise.

The pair had traded barbs earlier in the day, with McGregor saying he has single-handedly taken the UFC to new heights in the past year and that Diaz should be grateful that he has been granted a bumper pay day in such illustrious company.

It was all pretty standard fare and adding to the hype ahead of Sunday morning’s showdown but the Irishman could really have an advantage now with Diaz feeling the effects in his right hand.

McGregor remains the 1/5 favourite, with Diaz priced up at 4/1. However given the brutal way with which McGregor dispatched of Jose Aldo in his last fight, and taking Diaz’s possible injury into account, the 10/3 on the Irishman winning inside 60 seconds could now be the way to go.
