Ladbrokes Challenge Cup: Amateur rivals set for Fourth Round battle

| 18.03.2016

The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup returns this weekend and there are some mouth-watering ties as clubs from the Championship to the National Conference Division One aim to put their names in the hat for the Fifth Round draw.

12 Championship sides join their League 1 and National Conference counterparts for the Fourth Round, where a win could see teams land a tie against one of the four Super League clubs entering in the next stage of the tournament.

Five amateur sides remain in the competition, and we are guaranteed at least one community club in the fifth round as Featherstone Lions take on Lock Lane at the Big Fellas Stadium on Saturday (2pm kick-off) in an all-amateur Ladbrokes Feature Game of the round.

There promises to be a huge crowd for the Fourth Round battle between the two local rivals, who are separated by just five miles in West Yorkshire and are one division apart in the National Conference League.

There’ll also be a couple of big-name England internationals in attendance too, with Gareth Ellis (former Lock Lane) and 2015 Lance Todd Trophy winner Tom Briscoe (ex-Featherstone Lions) set to cheer on their former sides, as well as cheerleaders and an appearance from the famous Challenge Cup trophy itself.

And, one lucky supporter in attendance at the Big Fellas Stadium will have the chance to win £5000 in the Ladbrokes Half-Time Crossbar Challenge.

Here’s what happened when we featured Lock Lane ahead of their 40-6 win over Shaw Cross in the Second Round…

In the other Fourth Round ties featuring amateur sides, National Conference Premier Division side Pilkington Recs host Halifax on Saturday, while well-renowned amateur clubs Kells and Siddal face away trips to Oldham and Rochdale respectively.

There are a couple of tasty all-Championship ties too, as Dewsbury Rams and Bradford Bulls clash on Friday night in a West Yorkshire derby.

Meanwhile, early-season league leaders London Broncos host Featherstone Rovers on Saturday looking to carry their impressive start to the Championship season into the famous knockout competition.
