Ladbrokes Challenge Cup: Super League Widnes Face League 1 Rochdale

| 23.03.2016

The Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Fifth Round Draw saw the inclusion of Super League clubs, giving the lower-ranked teams currently in the competition the chance to produce a giantkilling against one of the game’s biggest names.

And they don’t come much bigger than current Super League leaders Widnes Vikings, who travel to Rochdale Hornets. Rochdale are making waves in League 1 and looking to take a big scalp in this prestigious competition.

Dennis Betts’ Widnes are also in impressive form, winning 18-12 away at Wigan last weekend, but they cannot afford to be complacent against a Rochdale side who will be up for the challenge.

Wakefield have had a disappointing start to Super League XXI and will be keen to rebuild their confidence against lower-league opposition. However, the Wildcats will be facing a Sheffield Eagles side who have scored an impressive 176 points in their six Championship games this season, so this is far from an easy task for the Super League team.

The only side remaining from the National Conference, Lock Lane, have an assignment at the MBi Shay, home of Halifax, for their Fifth Round tie. Castleford-based Lock Lane have done well in this tournament so far, but with Halifax having won their Fourth Round tie at Pilkington Recs by a bruising 78-0, this might be a step too far for the Conference side.

Elsewhere, Oldham travel to Hull KR, Leigh Centurions make the long trip over to Toulouse and Salford Red Devils welcome League 1 club Hunslet Hawks.

There’s also an intriguing clash between Championship title contenders Batley Bulldogs and Featherstone Rovers, while York City Knights play two-time Ladbrokes Challenge Cup winners Dewsbury Rams.
