Ladbrokes SPFL: Hibs lose again to throw title bid in doubt

It was a busy Tuesday night across the Ladbrokes SPFL as a host of fixtures up and down the leagues took place, with some dramatic results having major implications at each end of the three divisions.
Dumbarton’s tie with Alloa was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, but all other scheduled ties managed to go ahead.
However it was another night to forget for Hibs, while Ayr continued their revival in League 1 and East Stirling produced a surprise at Clyde in League 2.
Here’s your Tuesday night round-up…
Ladbrokes Championship
The big news of the night came at Palmerston Park as Hibernian slumped to a third-straight defeat.
Andy Murdoch – on loan from Rangers – netted the winner 12 minutes from time to deal another blow to Hibs’ title hopes.
With Harry Forrester and Lee Wallace leading Rangers to a 2-0 win at home to Raith, the gap at the top is now a huge 14 points.
The Hibees would be third had Falkirk not been held to a goalless draw at St Mirren, while Livingston stretched their advantage over bottom placed Alloa with a 0-0 stalemate at home to Morton.
All is not lost for Alan Stubbs’ men, but victory at home to the Gers this weekend is now realistically a must-win game if their title hopes are to continue.
Ladbrokes League 1
Brechin ended their eight-game winless run in emphatic style by hammering Forfar 4-0, to move within four points of last night’s opponents at the bottom.
Liam Watt and player-manager Darren Dods scored in seven first-half minutes, before Watt again and Robert Thompson rounded off the resounding scoreline after the break while the visitors had Gareth Rodger sent off in the final minute.
Ayr claimed a third-straight win in comfortable fashion with a 4-1 victory at home to Cowdenbeath.
United were 2-0 up after just 17 minutes and the win moves them to within two points of Peterhead with a game in hand.
The third fixture in League 1 last night saw Albion and Stenhousemuir play out a 1-1 draw.
Both goals came after the hour with Ross Meechin’s 63rd-minute strike for Stenny cancelled out by Ally Love 15 minutes later.
Ladbrokes League 2
There was just the one fixture in the fourth tier, but it was one which had implications at both ends of the table.
East Stirling’s 1-0 victory away at Clyde hugely boosted the visitors hopes of avoiding the drop, while also denying Barry Ferguson’s men a fourth-straight win.
Clyde had the better of the game, but David McKenna’s second-minute goal proved enough for the Shire, who are now just two points behind Berwick.
