Man United probing Barcelona in search for De Gea replacement

Man United odds,

Barring a miracle David De Gea will be lining up for dream club Real Madrid next season, leaving Manchester United no choice but to begin sounding out a quality replacement.

While the Spaniard earns his just rewards for illuminating a generally gloomy post-Sir Alex Ferguson era at Old Trafford so far, rumours the Red Devils could go German with his successor have surfaced.

Currently playing second fiddle to Barcelona number one Claudio Bravo, 23-year-old Marc-Andre ter Stegen has been earmarked as a potential successor to De Gea according to the Mirror.

Although Ter Stegen is the Chilean’s La Liga understudy, he arrived at the Camp Nou with a burgeoning reputation as one of the brightest young stoppers on the continent.

Signed from Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2014 just days before his 22nd birthday, sealing his big move to Barca coincided with gaining the first of four caps for the German national side.

It’s not like the Monchengladbach native has been left in the shadows for the European champions either.

He has played in every cup game that he’s been fit for since joining the Spanish giants, which culminated in glory in both the Copa del Rey and Champions League last season.

It’s fair to say therefore, that United would hardly be getting a greenhorn bereft of big-game experience.

Whether or not Luis Enrique would be willing to cash in on a player with so much left in the tank, especially in goalkeeping terms, remains to be seen though.

It may depend how much Louis Van Gaal and co are willing to splash on such a key position also, but replacing their double-winning player of the season is no easy task.
