Tottenham, Liverpool and Stoke stars on trial against Germany

Roy Hodgson’s decision to reveal his starting lineup for the friendly against Germany a day before the game kicks off gives us a chance to review the selection.

Four Tottenham players will start the game in Berlin and all have a good chance of making it on the plane to France in the summer.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Eric Dier and Danny Rose are all set to play and will be looking to exploit their club familiarity to impress for the Three Lions.

Kane will look to prosper from the absence of Wayne Rooney through injury and prove to Hodgson that he deserves to lead the line more than Jamie Vardy.

In the Premier League, the Spurs man has scored two more than Vardy, but the Leicester man’s ability to hassle defenders and chase them down may work well against bigger sides.

Therefore, showing that he can be useful against the World Champions would make it difficult not to start Kane at Euro 2016.

Alli is the teenager in Europe with the most starts to his name across the top five leagues and the 19-year-old now has the chance to prove he can do it at the top level.

The former MK Dons midfielder only has four England caps to his name, but a good performance against Germany will go along with his goal against France to prove he is ready to step up.

Dier is the only player that can do his role in the middle of the park so just needs to avoid a poor performance in Berlin, while Rose needs to impress to keep Keiran Gibbs and Ryan Bertrand at bay.

Spurs stars aside, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is also going to have to put in a good showing.

The midfielder would have been seen as guaranteed to make the plane only a year ago, but the Reds have had an inconsistent season and the emergence of the likes of Alli and Dier makes squad places more difficult to come by.

Finally, Jack Butland will benefit from the injury to Joe Hart to start and the keeper with the most saves per shots faced in the Premier League has a real chance of displacing the Man City man with a solid showing.
