Dilemmas looming large at Swansea City this summer

| 28.04.2016

They’ve secured their spot in the Premier League with games to spare, but Swansea are set to be in a bit of a pickle over how to prepare their plans for next season.

The Swans are still to make a decision on the future of current coach Francesco Guidolin, with the Italian’s contract ending at the end of the season.

And while it’s clear the squad requires significant improvement in the off-season, chairman Huw Jenkins has stated that a new manager will come before new players.

Jenkins told the South Wales Evening Post: “Everything has to be done one step at a time.

“Naturally, the way the club is, our scouts are constantly looking at players and we are considering different things,” he added.

“That’s not going to change. But the main point is that we have to get the head coach or manager position sorted out first,” Jenkins said.

It has been reported that Brendan Rodgers wants assurances over a transfer kitty before agreeing to return to the Liberty Stadium.

If that can’t be arranged the Welsh side may have to look elsewhere in what could soon resemble a chicken and egg scenario.

A host of players are set to depart this summer in order to make way for new faces, including Bafetimbi Gomis, Marvin Enmes, Kyle Bartley and Eder, while Andre Ayew has attracted attention from West Ham and Sunderland.

The 2013 League Cup winners are in for a busy summer as they seek a new manager and the best part of a new squad, but for the meantime they’ll be focusing on welcoming Liverpool to south Wales.

Swansea are 2/1 to hand defeat to Jurgen Klopp’s men, with the Reds 5/4 to keep the Whites limping towards the end of a rather forgettable season.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
