Liverpool legend Rush backs Brendan to make Swansea return

Former Liverpool and Wales striker Ian Rush has backed ex-Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers to make a return to the south Wales club this summer, should current coach Francesco Guidolin not extend his stay.
Rodgers led Swansea into the Premier League in 2011, and established the team as a top-tier force before joining Liverpool in 2012.
After narrowly missing out on the title in 2014, Rodgers saw his Anfield spell curtailed earlier this season, with Jurgen Klopp stepping into the dugout.
Swansea meanwhile have endured their worst Premier League campaign yet this term, with club stalwart-turned-manager Garry Monk sent packing before Christmas.
Along with Alan Curtis, Guidolin has steadied the ship and a spot in the top tier is all but secured next season after a run of wins including victories at Everton and Arsenal.
However with concerns over the Italian’s health, reports have suggested chairman Huw Jenkins has been exploring other long-term options to guide his club.
Rodgers has been linked with a return to Swansea for several months, and Rush is one man who thinks the relationship could be rekindled.
Drawing on his own experience from leaving and returning to Liverpool after a failed move to Juventus, Rush said at the Cardiff leg of the Euro 2016 trophy tour: “I think Brendan is a good person and I like him.”
“Things started to go wrong at Liverpool, but I think he’ll learn from the experience.
“People always say don’t go back, but I did it as a player and enjoyed it.
“I don’t agree with that saying and there are many other people who have returned to clubs and done well. Eddie Howe has done it at Bournemouth.
“Brendan would come back to Swansea after a lot of new experiences and possibly be an even better manager than before.”
On the pitch matters see Swansea take on Stoke at the Britannia Stadium this weekend, with the visitors 13/5 for another three points.
Having led the side to 14 points from nine games it’s clear Guidolin has made a huge impression on Swansea, but much like you just can’t shake those feelings for an old flame, so Rodgers and his old club continue to be linked with a potential reunion.
