Man United fans furious over Martial’s exclusion from YPOTY list

Manchester United fans have reacted with a mix of shock and anger upon learning that Anthony Martial will not be considered for the Young Player of the Year award this season.

The Frenchman has been one of few bright sparks in United’s lacklustre season and has played to a higher standard than many would have predicted in his first season at Old Trafford.

However, despite netting 13 goals and setting up numerous others for his team-mates the youngster has been overlooked in favour of a string of players including Ross Barkley and Philippe Coutinho.

Alongside the Everton and Liverpool players the Young Player of the Year award will be contested by Tottenham’s Dele Alli and Harry Kane, Stoke’s Jack Butland and Toffees striker Romelu Lukaku.

United fans can have little complaint about the presence of the Spurs duo, Potters keeper and Everton striker but the inclusion of Barkley and Coutinho will irk and baffle Martial’s fans in equal measure.

The Old Trafford faithful were quick to voice their displeasure on social media, with these just some of the publishable examples.

Alli is the odds-on favourite to scoop the youngsters gong at 1/6, while his Spurs team=mate Kane is second-favourite at 10/3 and Potters ace Butland available at 12/1.

Lukaku can be backed at 25/1 but at 33/1 and 50/1 respectively it seems the Ladbrokes traders are as baffled as United’s fans at the prospect of Barkley or Coutinho claiming the award.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
