Man United handed huge boost in pursuit of Barca star

Manchester United have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of defensive reinformcents, with Barcelona reportedly happy to part company with a highly-rated centre-back.

According to Marca, the Catalan giants are considering putting Marc Bartra up for sale, putting United and Premier League rivals Chelsea on red alert.

Bartra has made just 13 appearances this season and the 25-year-old could be available for the bargain price of £12m after falling down the pecking order at the Nou Camp.

The reason for the cut price carries the same hallmarks of the move that saw Thiago Alacantra depart Catalonia, with a game ratio of below 60 per cent triggering a release clause in the player’s contract.

“Even if he plays every game between now and the end of the season, his fate is sealed,” the Spanish publication explained.

“A transfer with the option for Barcelona to re-sign the defender is also an option, with the player himself postponing any decisions on his future until the end of the season.”

United are next in action against champions-elect Leicester City and go into the Old Trafford clash as the 21/20 favourites.

The Foxes can be backed at 13/5, with the draw on at 23/10 but with United odds-againstto  keep a clean sheet at home, news of Bartra’s availability will be music to the ears of the Stretford End’s regulars.
