Meet Man City’s number one transfer target under Guardiola

Although Pep Guardiola is taking over a Champions League team at Manchester City, there needs to be a great deal of work done in the transfer market to make the side regularly competitive in all competitions.

The Etihad outfit finished outside the top two in the Premier League for the first time in four years this season, slipping to fourth and barely clinging on to their Champions League status under a challenge from local rivals Man United.

Although the outgoing Manuel Pellegrini captured the Capital One Cup and engineered the Citizens’ best finish in Europe with a run to the semi-finals, it hasn’t been enough to stop rumour mongers setting the squad up for a big rebuild under Pep Guardiola.

According to the Daily Star, the first man the former Bayern Munich boss will bring in is central-midfielder Toni Kroos.

The German moved from the Bundesliga giants to Real Madrid while Guardiola was in charge in Bavaria. However, the Star suggest the Spaniard was powerless to stop that switch and is keen to link back up with the World Cup winner in Manchester.

It’s widely expected that Yaya Toure will leave the sky-blue wearers this summer, as he is one former Guardiola disciple that is not on good terms with the incoming manager.

That leaves at least one spot to be filled in the side’s middle-band, with Kroos rumoured to be valued at around £37.5m.

Whether the player himself will want to leave Los Blancos having just secured the Champions League title with the Spanish super club remains to be seen however.
