Newcastle star could be joining West Ham at Olympic Stadium

Newcastle United’s relegation to the Championship means that the Magpies are set to sell off some of the club’s most high-profile stars. One man attracting plenty of interest is Georginio Wijnaldum, with West Ham reportedly keen on snapping up the Netherlands midfielder.

Wijnaldum has been one of the few bright spots in Newcastle’s dismal season, finishing the season as the club’s top goalscorer with 11 strikes. And chances are the Tyneside outfit will struggle to convince such a talent to ply his trade in the Championship.

The future looks bright for the Hammers ahead of their move to the Olympic Stadium.

And with the east London outfit having challenged for European spots this season, Wijnaldum may find the prospect of a battle for continental football more appealing than Rotherham and Reading.

The former PSV Eindhoven man is rated at £15m by Transfermarkt, but talk is that Slaven Bilic has a sizeable warchest this season, and Wijnaldum could well be the first new face at the Olympic Stadium.

And Bilic will have the summer to try and tempt the midfield maestro to join the Irons, with the Netherlands having failed to reach Euro 2016 this summer, despite two winning goals in qualifying from – you guessed it – Georginio Wijnaldum.
