Poll Reaction: Another top-half finish for Leicester…but no title

Published:

Leicester City made headlines from Melton Mowbray to Malaysia last night, with the ultimate underdogs confirmed as Premier League champions. But they won’t be repeating the feat next season – or even coming close.

That’s according to our poll, with more than half of you predicting the Foxes to finish in the top half of the table, but to finish outside of the top four.

51 per cent of voters – to be precise – see a solid but unremarkable finish within the top 10 to follow the Foxes’ sensational title triumph.

With Champions League football to contend with next year, the east Midlands club could find replicating their domestic success a very tough act indeed.

29 per cent were even less confident for the Foxes’ future, tipping the current title-holders to finish next season in the bottom half of the table.

A top-four finish, meaning a second season of European football at the King Power Stadium, came third with 15 per cent, and many pragmatic Foxes fans would surely settle for that outcome.

Meanwhile, five per cent of you are tipping Claudio Ranieri’s charges to retain their league crown in 2016-17, a stat which shows just how unlikely and unprecedented the Foxes’ success has been this season.

Our traders appear to agree with the majority here, with Leicester City priced at 25/1 to win next season’s Premier League – though they’re rather shorter odds than the 5000/1 Ladbrokes offered for a Foxes title before the start of last season.

And, over 300 people have already backed Ranieri’s men to do just that, so there are a sizeable minority who believe their heroes can repeat the feat.

Foxes’ fans will be in party mode on Saturday, with their dream team 10/11 to crown their incredible triumph with victory over Everton, while the Toffees are a 14/5 shot to take the points back to Merseyside.
