East Fife boss Gary Naysmith named League 2 Manager of the Season

East Fife manager Gary Naysmith has been named the Ladbrokes League 2 Manager of the Season, after the player-boss lead the Fifers to a famous league title.

In what proved to be a captivating year, the Bayview club saw off sustained challenges from five other teams to claim what is their third league title.

Naysmith has been in charge of the Fifers since 2013, and he spoke exclusively to Ladbrokes after receiving his award: “I’m delighted, any time you get an award it shows you’re doing something right.”

“You receive the award, but you can’t get it without the help of other people. The backroom staff and the players, I have to give a lot of thanks to because without them I wouldn’t have got it.”

With a season in League 1 rapidly approaching, the former Everton left back is already planning ahead.

“The biggest thing is we don’t want to be a yoyo club. We want to keep moving forward,” Naysmith said.

“We’ve made really big strides as a club in a short space of time and we want to build on that,” he added.

Naysmith has already been busy in the off-season, preparing a side he feels is capable for stepping up a division for next term.

“We’re happy with the business we’ve done. We’ve got 16 signed players and will probably only run with a squad of 17 or 18.

“For me, last season is gone. If we don’t keep progressing we’ll eventually stand still and we’ll go backwards.”

There is certainly plenty of optimism coming out of Bayview this summer, and it’s 10/1 East Fife go and make it successive championships next season.
