Gareth Southgate is the early favourite to be next England manager
Gareth Southgate is the clear favourite to become the next permanent manager of England according to the latest odds.
Following Roy Hodgson’s late-night resignation the England under-21s gaffer is the name on punters’ lips and the support has seen his odds tumble into favouritism at odds of just 5/4.
However, Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has also been a popular bet at 5/1, along with Alan Pardew at 8/1.
Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp also finds himself chalked up at 8/1 to take the country’s top job after being touted several times in the past.
And finally, it’s a 5/1 shot England captain Wayne Rooney calls it a day on his international career before the end of this year.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “It’s early days but all the momentum is with Southgate to step up from the U-21 side. Rooney’s time in France divided fans but as far as the odds are concerned it looks like he’ll keep playing for a little longer yet.”
