Liverpool linked to bid for dallying Arsenal transfer target

| 09.06.2016

With Arsenal failing to persuade Euros-focused Jamie Vardy to join them before the tournament, another potential dampener to the Gunners’ ambitions has arisen in the shape of Liverpool.

The Reds, according to the Daily Star’s unnamed Leicester City source, may look to muscle in on Arsenal’s act and prepare a rival bid for the England striker this summer.

Despite Jurgen Klopp’s top-heavy squad currently containing four recognised centre-forwards, the theory is at least one, namely Christian Benteke, will be sold on this summer to free up some space at Anfield.

The Daily Star’s King Power Stadium insider seems to know exactly why Vardy would be on Klopp’s summer wishlist too.

“We know Vardy is seen as the perfect fit for Liverpool,” the source says. “That’s because of his pace, work ethic, ability to run the channels – and goal-scoring ability.”

There is a hypothetical fit there, but whether or not 29-year-old Vardy would be willing to waive the chance at Champions League football to join a team devoid of any European involvement next season is highly debatable.

Such contention isn’t an issue for Arsene Wenger’s Champions League stalwarts.

However, with Vardy putting off the decision on his future until after June 20th at least – the date of England’s final Group B assignment – the opportunity for other high-profile clubs to throw their hats into the ring now exists.

The suspension of any definite decision also gives the forward’s Leicester teammates, some of whom have already jumped on the texts according to reports, more time to dissuade Vardy from abandoning the Premier League champions this summer.

By the end of Vardy’s involvement at Euro 2016, he may well have several different offers to mull over.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
