Man Utd set sights on one-third of Italy’s Euros defence

Jose Mourinho is expected to be quite active as Manchester United manager this summer, as he strives to bring silverware and regular Champions League football back to Old Trafford.
In order to do that, many believe the former Chelsea boss will need to make numerous moves in the transfer market and, essentially, rebuild the Red Devils’ squad.
Links with some of the game’s biggest names have been regular since Mourinho arrived as Louis van Gaal’s successor and that is no different with Euro 2016 in progress.
According to the Daily Star on Sunday, United are keen to prise Italy and Juventus star defender Leonardo Bonucci to the Premier League.
The 29-year-old has featured in every minute of the Azzurri’s two games in the competition so far, where Antonio Conte’s men are yet to concede a goal and have won both matches.
As part of a back line that contains fellow Juve defensive cohorts Giorgio Chiellini and Andrea Barzagli, Bonucci has shone at the back.
He has made the most clearances in the side with six and has also made the most interceptions for the Italians too.
His sturdy performances have contributed to an impressive start to team’s stay in France, with Ladbrokes making Italy 11/1 to win the competition.
Should he make the switch to Manchester United, Bonucci would be the second defensive recruit of Mourinho’s tenure after Eric Bailly signed for a reported £30m from Villarreal earlier this month.
Considering predominant midfielder Daley Blind played much of last season at centre-half, heavy recruitment in the heart of the defence is understandable.
Chris Smalling would expect to remain a key member of the backline after improving considerably last season and Phil Jones is recovering from injury, but it’s clear Mourinho feels more bodies are required.
