Pep Guardiola could poach Bayern’s Spanish star for Man City

New Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be looking to strengthen his side’s defensive options following a frustrating Premier League campaign, and the Citizens boss could return to former club Bayern Munich to snap up left-back Juan Bernat.

The versatile 23-year-old has been hugely impressive on the left side of defence at Bayern, but also impressed on the wing at former club Valencia – and City fans would welcome such a flexible addition to their squad.

Despite a torn muscle keeping him out for two months during 2015-16, Bernat still notched up 29 appearances for Die Roten last season, proving he’s a man highly-favoured by Guardiola.

That connection could well be enough to lure the Spaniard from Munich to Manchester, and with transfermarkt.co.uk valuing the Cullera native at £13.5m – a fee which is unlikely to deter the Sky Blues.

Bernat has imposed himself in the Spain squad since his debut in October 2014, chalking up seven caps for La Furia Roja, and his omission from Vicente Del Bosque’s squad has surprised many fans.

However, that decision could prove a blessing for Man City, with Guardiola now having all summer to secure the left-back’s signature.

The Etihad outfit are 2/1 favourites to put last season’s disappointment behind them by lifting a third Premier League title in five years, while it’s 1/7 they secure a sixth consecutive top-four finish.

Whether Bernat will finish next season celebrating a league title with the blue half of Manchester remains to be seen.
