Poll Reaction: Kane and Vardy will start for England against Russia

| 02.06.2016

The 2016 European Championships kick off in just eight days time, and England fans won’t have much longer to wait to see their heroes with Roy Hodgson’s men in action on June 11 versus Russia.

With Euro fever rapidly reaching its peak, we asked our Twitter followers to name who they think will start up front for the Three Lions in their opening fixture in Marseille.

The national side boast a glut of talented strikers, with Harry Kane bursting onto the scene in the last two seasons.

He’s been joined by Marcus Rashford’s explosive rise with Manchester United, while Jamie Vardy’s story is no less enthralling.

Kane and Vardy bagged 49 Premier League goals between them this season, and that probably explains why 64 per cent of you say they should start in England’s opener.

Granted, Vardy may find himself on the left wing, as has happened before, but England will be taking some of Europe’s most feared strikers into action this summer.

Poll1

A Kane and Wayne Rooney combination claimed 27 per cent of the vote, ahead of a blend of old and new with skipper Rooney and Rashford on six per cent.

We also asked you to pitch alternative options, with a few calls for Daniel Sturridge and many of you fancying Kane up top on his own.

Roy’s boys are 19/20 to open their campaign with three points, while Leonid Slutsky’s Russia are 7/2 to put England on the back foot early-on.

All Odds and Markets are correct as of the date of publishing.
