Romania v Switzerland: Back Swiss to score first but surrender victory

| 14.06.2016

Switzerland wheezed their way to victory against Albania, despite having a man advantage for the entire second half. And those frailties are likely to haunt fans of the Schweizer pati, with the form book suggesting they will score first and throw away a lead against Romania in Paris.

In last month’s friendly against Belgium, Switzerland led 1-0, eventually losing 2-1 to De Rode Duivels. Conversely, the Romanians have had happier experiences of comebacks.

They’ve come from behind to draw in the last five minutes of their recent friendlies against Finland and Italy, as well as winning from behind in Moldova last year.

With the Tricolorii drawing seven of their last 11 matches, and Switzerland seeing five of their last six settled by a single goal, 11/5 for a draw looks the right selection in the match betting, though Romania can be backed at 12/5 with the Swiss 11/8 favourites.

However, the best value looks to be on a Romanian comeback. We’re offering odds of 12/1 for the Swiss lead at half-time with a draw at full-time, with 28/1 for the Tricolorii to wipe out a half-time deficit and win.

For those who fancy the Eastern European outfit to come from behind, but are looking for a slightly safer bet, it’s 5/1 that Anghel Iordianescu’s men come from behind to win or draw.

With their comeback against France only scuppered by Dimitri Payet’s piece of individual brilliance, if Romania concede first here, they’ll still fancy their chances of taking something from a rather ordinary Swiss side.
