3 potential Sakho replacements for West Ham to consider

Relations between West Ham United and Diafra Sakho have turned a little thorny this summer and, if the latest reports about the tension are anything to go by, they’re about to get worse.

Sakho wants out of east London. He has requested a transfer and refused to travel with the team for their pre-season training camp in Austria.

West Ham want a new striker. They have been linked with any number of them over the course of the off-season but, as yet, haven’t landed one.

The bad news for Sakho is that until a new face arrives, he’s going nowhere.

That’s what the club’s co-owner, David Sullivan, told the Daily Mail recently and, given the number of misses the Hammers have had already, it’s not the most encouraging news for the Senegalese striker.

Carlos Tevez, Carlos Bacca, Simone Zaza, Alexandre Lacazette and Michy Batshuayi have are all on the growing list of missed targets for the Hammers this summer.

Here, for good measure, are three more frontmen the Olympic Stadium side could try to replace Sakho with:

Wissam Ben Yedder

A regular source of goals for Toulouse over the past four Ligue 1 campaigns, 25-year-old Ben Yedder is a more lethal version of Sakho.

The Frenchman has scored 14 or more goals in each of his last four league seasons for his current club and yet is only valued at £7.65m by football website Transfermarkt.

Borja Baston

If meeting the exorbitant wages of all these household names proves too costly, then perhaps loaning a highly-regarded youngster is the way forward?

Few fit the bill better than Atletico Madrid’s Baston, who has been turfed out around Spain in each of the last five seasons.

64 goals in 165 games in that time show the 23-year-old has both the talent and adaptability to be a success at West Ham.

Mario Gomez

About the only “big-name” forward the Hammers haven’t already been linked to is the man who helped Besiktas claim the Turkish league title and scored twice at Euro 2016 as Germany reached the semi-finals.

Gomez was at the Black Eagles on loan from Fiorentina last term and, as the Turkish champions are yet to agree a fee for the 31-year-old, there could be a window of opportunity for West Ham.
