Are Manchester United about to usher in new Galacticos era?

With Jose Mourinho at the helm and Zlatan Ibrahimovic all-but unveiled, it feels a lot like Manchester United are bringing the sexy back to Old Trafford after three colourless seasons.

If the Special One and the Super Swede are joined by the next few names hogging the headlines then this theory will be fully vindicated.

Juventus and France star Paul Pogba is in line for a sensational Old Trafford return according to widespread reports, while Henrikh Mkhitaryan, fresh from a magnificent season pulling Borussia Dortmund’s strings when registering 15 Bundesliga assists, is also closing in on a switch if intense speculation rings true.

Man Utd are 1/1 favourites to be Pogba’s next club after the summer transfer window.

Mourinho has certainly proved a magnetic force for stellar signings at past clubs; Michael Ballack, Ashley Cole, Diego Milito, Samuel Eto’o, Luka Modric and Mesit Ozil to name drop but a few.

But he was managing the likes of Real Madrid we hear you cry! Well, this is Manchester United ladies and gentlemen, with prestige and purse strings to rival any club on the planet.

With Zlatan in the bag, others might well pick up the scent that United is once again a ‘Galactico’s’ destination.

As the 9/2 second favourites to win the 2016/17 Premier League title, a new-found optimism has gripped the 13-time champions that they can challenge again for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson hung up the hairdryer.

It’s not as if Mourinho’s predecessors didn’t spend big, with Louis van Gaal in particular accused of wasting a princely sum of money on signings across his two-year stay and the £27.5m purchase of Marouane Fellaini under David Moyes, still rankling many a United fan.

It remains to be seen whether Pogba, Mkhitaryan and others actually do follow Ibrahimovic through the door, but a new Red Devils dawn could be rising.
