Home win over Man United was Bournemouth’s greatest

Published:

Last season was a historic one down on the Dorset coast, as Bournemouth embarked on their first ever adventure in the Premier League. What’s more, the Cherries avoided relegation, with their most impressive moment coming in the famous victory over Manchester United.

That’s the view according to today’s Twitter poll, which asked our followers to declare Bournemouth’s most impressive win last term from four contenders.

The options were the United win, the 4-3 success over West Ham, the 1-0 beating of Chelsea, or the 2-0 win over new Premier League rivals Southampton.

It was a closely-run thing, but the magnitude of that December win versus England’s most successful club in history, came out on top with 33 per cent.

Those who were at Dean Court that day will talk of the win for years and generations to come, as Junior Stanislas and Joshua King scored the goals which secured arguably the club’s greatest victory.

Amazingly that win came just one week after today’s second place result – the 1-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Glenn Murray proved the hero of the hour with a late header, as Eddie Howe’s men stunned the reigning champions.

In third place came the crazy 4-3 victory over West Ham, which also holds huge significance in the history of the south coast club – their first ever Premier League win.

And last, but certainly not least, came the Southampton win in March, the first ever meeting between the two sides in the top tier.

In any other season, that result may have won our poll, but last season was no ordinary year in the history of AFC Bournemouth.
