Liverpool may cash in on Newcastle midfielder’s will to leave

Having resisted the temptation to rock the Anfield boat in January, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is now embracing the opportunity to refresh his stocks during the summer transfer window.
Sadio Mane’s pricey move grabbed the headlines recently, following on from Germany U21 keeper Loris Karius’s arrival, while Schalke defender Joel Matip has subsequently been confirmed on a free transfer.
Next in the pipeline of potential signings comes Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to the Guardian newspaper among others.
The paper appear privy to information that Klopp is a big admirer of the Magpies man, currently playing for the hosts of Euro 2016.
Sissoko has acquitted himself well for France, starting once and appearing in three of Les Bleus’ four games in the tournament to date.
Clearly, his situation at Newcastle is one open to exploitation. Recent quotes such as this certainly indicate a willingness to move on.
“I have reached a level where playing in the Championship would be difficult for me. I need to continue to evolve. I aspire to play for the greatest European clubs and to continue with the French national team,” Sissoko said in the build up to the Euros.
The Toon’s relegation to the Championship is likely to initiate at least a trickle of big names leaving St. James’s Park if not spark a full-blown exodus, thanks to the retention of Rafael Benitez as manager.
Indeed, Andros Townsend’s £13m move to Crystal Palace within the last 24 hours could be the catalyst for Sissoko and others.
It’s rumoured that the powerful Frenchman would cost any interested party £12m to prise him away and it may be that Klopp and Liverpool’s preference is to sell before they next invest.
