Punter backs Man United to break 80-goal mark in Prem next season

| 12.07.2016

Last season saw Manchester United record their lowest goal tally of the Premier League era last season, with the Red Devils hitting the net just 49 times.

But following the arrival of new boss Jose Mourinho and iconic striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, one fan is backing the north-west giants to rediscover their goalscoring prowess, with an intriguing #WhatAreTheOdds request – United to break the 80-goal mark in the upcoming Premier League campaign.

This punter certainly has history on their side, and at 5/1, the odds appear very tempting. United have already topped the 80-goal mark six times since the Premier League began, while they’ve managed exactly 80 on three occasions. A fourth instance would be sure to leave our customer with his head in his hands!

While the Old Trafford outfit have been some way below that target in the last three seasons, the arrival of Ibrahimovic and creative midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan are likely to bolster young gems like Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial in attack.

However, Mourinho’s teams have rarely been high-scoring sides, with none of his three title-winning Chelsea sides scoring more than 73 times en route to the league crown. That means the enigmatic boss may need to change his footballing philosophy to keep this fan – and the Old Trafford faithful – happy.

Man United are 7/2 favourites to win the Premier League, and begin the campaign away at Bournemouth, where they’re 7/10 to avenge last season’s defeat on the south coast by taking all three points.

And if Mourinho’s men can hit the ground running with a hatful of goals at Dean Court, we know one individual who’ll be feeling very smug indeed!
