Watch: Scottish Football Gold – Caniggia announces himself at Dundee

Published:

Our look back at some of Scottish football’s finest goals continues and this morning we’re taking a trip back to Dens Park.

It was October 2000 and Dundee sat in sixth place in the Scottish Premiership after an inconsistent start to their campaign.

However, there were signs that their season was about to become a little more lively.

Two weeks prior to this fixture, the Dees had pulled off a real coup in the signing of Argentina international Claudio Caniggia following a year at Atalanta.

Dundee’s assistant manager Dario Bonetti played a huge part in securing his compatriot’s services, having played alongside Caniggia at Verona earlier in his career.

And after scoring on his full debut in a 2-0 win away at Aberdeen, Dundee fans arrived in their thousands to watch their new man in action at Dens Park against Motherwell.

Though their team ended up losing 2-1 to a Well side managed by Billy Davies, fans witnessed probably Caniggia’s best strike in a Dundee shirt after just 22 minutes.
