10 things we can expect from the Premier League opening weekend

It’s the time of year every football fan in the country has been waiting for. That’s right – the Premier League is back!

And to get you in the mood, we’ve compiled a list of 10 things you can expect to see on the opening weekend. So will a team be dubbed the new Leicester? Will there be any manager/physio bust-ups? Find out below…

Martin Tyler to say “it’s normal service resumed for the Premier League Champions” if Leicester beat Hull.

This is one to look out for if you’re a fan of Soccer Saturday bingo.

Manchester United will have a player sent off and Jose Mourinho will receive his first warning of the season from the FA.

Let’s face it – it wouldn’t be the first time the Special One will have been at the centre of controversy with the FA. He may as well start as he means to go on this weekend away at Bournemouth.

David Moyes’ Sunderland team will be booed off at half-time at the Etihad.

Last season, Manchester City were 3-0 up at the interval in this fixture. A repeat of that and new Black Cats boss Moyes will certainly feel the wrath of the Sunderland fans.

At least one of the big four managers to say “look, the title won’t be won or lost in one game.”

Another one to listen out for in post-match interviews.

Antonio Conte to give one of his players a death stare.

If any Chelsea player puts a single foot wrong in their Monday night fixture at home to West Ham, they’ll know about it.

Arsenal fans to alternate Wenger in/out banners whenever their team does something good or bad.

They sure are a divided bunch in North London, with half of the Emirates believing Arsene Wenger is still the man to take this club forward, while the other half think it’s time the Frenchman called it a day. Expect the same lack of unity between Gunners fans from the outset.

One striker to stand next to his teammate at kick-off, shortly followed by the referee explaining the new rules.

This is one that’s going to take some getting used to for fans and players alike.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side to do that celebration again following a last-minute equaliser.

We can only imagine how great it must have felt to snatch a last-gasp goal at Anfield against West Brom to rescue a point – so think what Klopp’s players will do should they snatch a late equaliser at the Emirates!

At least one 0-0 draw (Crystal Palace and West Brom, maybe?).

There’s always one who spoils the party.

Gary Lineker to put his pants up for auction following Match of the Day.

The BBC will expect record views in the first MOTD of the season, though some may be tuning in just to catch a glimpse of one of England’s greatest ever goalscorers in just his underwear.
