Chelsea v West Ham: History of home success to help Conte

| 14.08.2016

Antonio Conte’s Chelsea tenure gets underway with the tricky visit of West Ham to Stamford Bridge on Monday Night Football.

The Italian has a long-standing record of success to uphold against the Hammers at home, with the east Londoners last winning at the Blues’ place in 2002.

Since then Chelsea have won nine of the 11 visits West Ham have made to the Bridge, with goals being scored freely in the most recent tussles.

The hosts have scored two or more times in five of the last six and can be backed at 8/11 to score over 1.5 in their first outing of the 2015/16 campaign.

This fixture surpassed 2.5 total goals in the match on both occasions last season and 4/5 to follow the same path here.

Unsurprisingly, the hosts are favoured in the match-betting market, at 4/6 for victory. Meanwhile, Slaven Bilic’s visitors are available at 9/2 with the draw a 3/1 chance.

West Ham’s chances of an upset are made all the more difficult by a fitness doubt over Dimitri Payet.

The Frenchman had been given extra time off after his exertions at Euro 2016 and only recently returned to training with the claret and blue club.

New signings Andre Ayew, Sofiane Feghouli and Havard Nordveit are all in line to make debuts, while N’Golo Kante is expected to make his Chelsea bow alongside Cesc Fabregas in midfield.

Despite the arrival of Michy Batshuayi this summer, Diego Costa is our 13/10 favourite to open the scoring, with the Belgian hanging on to his coattails at 7/4. Andy Carroll is the most likely Hammer to break the deadlock, at odds of 3/1.
