Fan backs Everton to be Merseyside kings with #WhatAreTheOdds bet

There’s a new-found optimism around Goodison Park following Ronald Koeman’s appointment as Everton boss, and one fan is backing the Toffees to chalk up home and away wins against Liverpool in this season’s Premier League at 9/1. So, is this a top bet or too optimistic?
Well, Everton’s home record against their city rivals is respectable if unspectacular. The Toffees have lost just one of the last six at home to their city rivals, though four of those meetings have been draws.
However, the club’s highly-rated new boss and summer arrivals like Idrissa Gueye and Maarten Stekelenburg suggest they’re better prepared to overcome the red half of Merseyside than in recent seasons – but history is against the Blues.
The last time they managed a top-flight double over Liverpool was way back in 1984-85, as the Toffees lifted the First Division title (present-day Premier League) and brought home the European Cup Winners’ Cup.
And their recent record at Anfield makes for grim reading if you’re of an Everton persuasion. Two 4-0 thumpings in the last three visits doesn’t inspire too much confidence, nor does the fact that Everton haven’t tasted victory in front of the Kop since September 1999.
However, the one Evertonian who consistently shines in the Merseyside derby looks likely to feature in this season’s meetings. Romelu Lukaku had looked set to exit Goodison Park earlier this summer, but now appears to be staying put.
Having scored three times for the Toffees in this fixture since his arrival in 2013, continued good form against Jurgen Klopp’s charges could see the Belgian inspire Everton to end their Anfield hoodoo and bring the money rolling in for this punter.
Koeman’s men begin the season by welcoming Tottenham to the north-west, with Everton 19/10 to take all three points. If they can fly out of the blocks this season, December’s meeting with Liverpool could be the first step towards reclaiming the bragging rights on Merseyside.
