La Liga Summer Signings – Part Two: Kevin-Prince Boateng headlines
We’re just days away from the beginning of the new La Liga campaign, and in preparation for what’s expected to be another tense season at both ends of the table, we’ve highlighted one key signing from each club in Spain’s top division. And today we’re looking at the likes of Malaga, Real Madrid and new boys Leganes.
Las Palmas
Kevin-Prince Boateng (yep!) this month agreed to sign for Las Palmas having never played in Spain before, and the capturing of such a talent only further emphasises the ambition of manager Quique Setien.
Leganes
La Liga new boys Leganes have a lot to do if they are to maintain their top-flight status, and the relatively young team will welcome the cool, experienced head of Carl Medjani in defence.
Malaga
If Malaga are to better last season’s eighth place finish, they’ll need to start turning draws into wins, and Uruguayan striker Michael Santos has been brought in to help do just that.
Osasuna
Osasuna are back in the top-flight, and in an attempt to rectify what went wrong three seasons ago, manager Enrique Martin has strengthened his back-four with the arrival of Espanyol defender Juan Rafael Fuentes.
Real Madrid
It’s been a quiet summer for Zidane’s Madrid, with the return of Alvaro Morata being the only noteworthy piece of business. Could this mean they’re planning a deadline day shock?
Real Sociedad
Juanmi never really got going at Southampton following his move from Malaga last year, but a return to La Liga could be just what the 23-year-old needs to kick-start his career.
Sevilla
The arrival of Wissam Ben Yedder brings with it the potential to be the Spanish signing of the summer. His 63 goals in the French league led to increased speculation linking the 25-year-old with a move to England.
Sporting Gijon
Gijon narrowly avoided relegation last season, and have since added no less than 11 players in this transfer window. Their standout buy, though, has to be Xavi Torres. The former Champions League and La Liga winner will offer a much-needed cool head in the engine room.
Valencia
The arrival of Nani took everyone at the Mestalla Stadium by surprise this summer, as the Portuguese winger was heavily linked with a return to the Premier League. His performances at Euro 2016 have certainly justified his £7.25m price-tag.
Villarreal
He was once tipped to end up as one of the best strikers in world football, having grown up in an AC Milan side playing with Ronaldo, Kaka, Andrea Pirlo and Filippo Inzaghi, but somehow it all went wrong for Alexandre Pato.
A season with Villarreal in La Liga might be the Brazilian’s last chance to prove his worth at a top club.
