Southampton’s Europa League adventure will be short and sweet

Southampton’s foray into the Europa League will come crashing to an end in the group stages.

That’s the view coming from today’s @Ladbrokes Twitter poll, after we asked how far you think the Saints will go in Europe following the group stage draw this afternoon.

After being pitched against Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Sparta Prague and European giants Inter Milan in Group K, it seems most of you don’t fancy Claude Puel’s side to make the knockout stages.

Some 43 of you voted to say a group exit looms for the Saints, with 36 per cent of you saying the Hampshire outfit will make the quarter-finals.

Should they achieve that target, not many of you reckon they’ll be going much further.

A respectable 15 per cent of voters said the Saints may win it, but we reckon a few of those voters may have been from the Hampshire area.

And that left just five per cent who fancy Southampton to make it to the semi-finals.

The bookies odds reflect the task at hands, with 28/1 offered on the Saints winning the cup next May.

Inter are 4/5 to win Group K, with Southampton as 5/2 second favourites.

Saints’ fans will already be planning for their historic trip to the almighty San Siro stadium as they get ready to enjoy a rare European adventure, even if it may be short-lived.
