Stephen Dobbie - Queen of the South

It’s time for the latest in our line of Ladbrokes SPFL Fans’ Previews. With the new campaign now underway we’re asking a cross-section of passionate supporters how they think their side will get on and who’ll shine this season.

Stuart McLaren is our resident expert at Palmerston ParkHe’s a passionate Queen of the South fan and he’s also in charge of the The Only Team in the Bible fan site and forum.

Here’s how he’s calling it…

The Club:

If you could sign one star from the past…

Stephen Dobbie.

Hero of our Cup Final side, but who has now moved well out of our league to play in the English Premiership and Championship.

I’m most excited about this season because…

We’ve only just gone and re-signed Stephen Dobbie!

I’m least excited about this season because…

Until last week, I’d have said because we had made the very un-ambitious decision to replace last season’s “failed” manager, James Fowler, with last season’s “failed” assistant, Gavin Skelton.

But after the news yesterday that we have re-signed Stephen Dobbie, I’m excited about everything!

Two songs that define your side?

One Man Band (joking)

We’re The Only Team in The Bible (our club song)

Actor that would play your gaffer in a film and why?

Robert Duvall

Just because he’s managed more games at Palmerston than Gavin Skelton has so far (filming for that classic movie, A Shot at Glory).

Key Player?

Tough one, let me think? Maybe Stephen Dobbie!

Weak links?

Being serious for a second, we could do with more left sided players.

Wonder what Bob Harris is up to these days? (another of our Cup Final team who went on to play in the Championship down south).

Headline Generator?

Oh, come on, how often do you want me to say it ?Stephen Dobbie (although Derek Lyle might make the front pages!).

Young player to watch this season?

Lyndon Dykes looks good so far on the left of our midfield.

He’s an Australian with Dumfries links, was part of our youth system before going back to Australia, but has returned this season with a first team contract.

League Predictions:

Your position?

Until last week I’d have said happy with eighth. But now, top four easy!

Title Winner?

They can’t under perform forever, it’s got to be the Hibees this year (maybe?).

2nd Place?

Queens!

Bottom?

Ayr

Top Goalscorer pick?

Do you mean for us or the whole league? It doesn’t matter, the answer’s the same – Stephen Dobbie!

Surprise team of the season?

Ayr

I think they will surprise everyone by being even worse than expected.
