SPFL Fans’ Preview: Dundee United are all set for silverware
Published:It’s time for the latest in our line of Ladbrokes SPFL Fans’ Previews. In the build-up to the new campaign we’re asking a cross-section of passionate supporters how they think their side will get on and who’ll shine this season.
John David Hunter is our resident expert at Tannadice. He’s a passionate Dundee United fan hoping they make a swift return to the Premiership. He’s also in charge at the Dundee United FTD Facebook group.
Here’s how he’s calling it…
The Club:
If you could sign one star from the past…
My all time hero, Maurice Malpas.
Not showy but Mr Dependable.
I’m most excited about this season because…
We have a new manager and an exciting young team.
I’m least excited about this season because…
We are down a division. Lost revenue means that we cannot keep players.
And we have a pink kit!
Two songs that define your side?
The United anthem of I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You. No matter how upset we are with the club we always go back because we love United.
And of course Ray McKinnon’s Tangerine Army! We always back our managers and our saying this season is ‘In Ray We Trust’.
Actor that would play your gaffer in a film and why?
Honestly, he would play himself. He is unique.
A young manager at a big club and he has confidence in what he can do. From what I have seen the players really respect him and play for him.
Key Player?
Weak links?
Our centre-halves.
Mark Durnan seems to lack confidence, Lewis Toshney is taking time to settle and Coll Donaldson seems to forget he is a defender first and foremost and just clear the ball.
Headline Generator?
Ray McKinnon after winning the double in his first season (League Cup and Championship)
Young player to watch this season?
A product of the youth conveyor belt at Tannadice – Scott Fraser.
League Predictions:
Your position?
We will be the Championship winners.
Title Winner?
Dundee United!
2nd Place?
Hibs.
Bottom?
It is a very hard league, but I think Dumbarton may struggle.
Top Goalscorer pick?
Simon Murray
Surprise team of the season?
Morton
With Jim Duffy in charge you never know what will happen.
