Norwich fancied to retain Championship top spot tonight

It’s almost a full fixture list in the Championship tonight, with 22 of the 24 teams in action. And even though Norwich City don’t play until tomorrow night, our Twitter followers can’t see any side knocking them off the top of the table.

There are three sides which could do just that tonight, as Huddersfield, Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading are all within touching distance of the Canaries.

But Alex Neil’s men won today’s @Ladbrokes poll with 48 per cent of the vote.

In second place both in the league and today’s poll (with 30 per cent of the vote) were Huddersfield Town, who welcome 23rd-placed Rotherham United to the John Smith’s Stadium. And given that they’re just two points off the top, a win by any margin would see them climb above Norwich – at least for 24 hours.

Brighton travel to Ipswich Town tonight, and given that their goal difference is equal to that of the Canaries, a win for Chris Hughton’s men coupled with anything but a Huddersfield victory would see them sit at the top of the table for the first time since mid-August.

However, only 15 per cent of voters think results will go the way of the Seagulls.

Though they may not be top of the league, Reading are leading the way in the form charts after picking up 14 points from their last six outings. But they’d need a miracle to occur tonight if they were to leapfrog from fourth-place to first.

The Royals would need to win by seven goals away at Brentford and hope that both Brighton and Huddersfield fail to win in order to top the table. A big ask for Jaap Stam’s men.
