WATCH: Who’ll be named this year’s Steve Prescott Man of Steel?

| 22.09.2016

The three-man shortlist for this year’s Steve Prescott Man of Steel has been announced with Gareth Ellis, Danny Houghton and Denny Solomona set to fight it out for the most prestigious individual award in Rugby League.

The award is given to the individual deemed to have made the greatest impact over the course of the Super League season and given that criteria it’s not hard to see why the trio mentioned have made it to the final stages.

FC captain Gareth Ellis has been instrumental for the Airlie Birds, leading his side to the top four of Super League, as well as Ladbrokes Challenge Cup success.

Team-mate Danny Houghton has also been a rock, amassing an incredible 1,244 tackles this year while Denny Solomona has posted some impressive stats of his own.

The 22-year-old has crossed the line 37 times this season to beat a 12-year-old record held by Bradford Bulls’ Lesley Vainikolo.

The Man of Steel award is decided by a poll of every Super League player. And for the first time in its history the result will be made public after the main event at the Point, Lancashire Cricket Club, on Monday October 3.

The Man of Steel is not the only accolade that will be given out. A number of other awards are up for grabs, including Coach of the Year and Young Player of the Year.

The nominees for the 2016 Super League Young Player of the Year are as follows:

Ryan Sutton (Wigan Warriors)

Tom Johnstone (Wakefield Wildcats)

Matt Whitley (Widnes Vikings)

The 2016 Steve Prescott Man of Steel awards dinner is just the start of a huge week for Rugby League with the Grand Final set to take place on Saturday October 8.

Tickets for this year’s Grand Final are still available and start from £15. Please visit to purchase or for further information.
