Football Blogging Awards

We’re now less than a month away from finding out which of our finalists will be named the Football Blogging Award’s Best Gambling Blog, as sponsored by Ladbrokes News. So to give you some insight into the day-to-day lives of each of our nominees, we caught up with them to ask them about all things blogging.

Up first is MrFootyTips!

Ladbrokes News: Describe a day in the life of MrFootyTips

Like almost anyone in the 21st century I start the day by perusing social media with one eye on business and the other on the news.

Then I’ll typically digest the Racing Post – as we cover the racing too @MrRacingTips – over breakfast before uploading the day’s tips and immersing myself in the riveting world of statistics.

Throughout the day I’ll interact with my followers on Twitter, watch any of the matches I’ve tipped up, and desperately seek out value in the markets.

LN: What makes you guys stand out from your competition?

I like to think MrFootyTips sets itself apart by finding the best value based on current form.

By studying recent stats we’re able to identify where the greatest value for money lies. In this way, we do all the boring work so our followers don’t have to!

LN: Proudest blogging moment to date?

Being nominated for this award certainly ranks highly in the site’s history and makes the hours spent fact-checking feel worthwhile!

It’s also nice to hear from followers and how they regularly refer to the blog for a preview ahead of the weekend, which is exactly what we set out to achieve.

LN: Best tip ever?

Too many to recall – obviously!

LN: If you had a £100 free bet on any Premier League outright market this season, what would you back?

Leicester to finish in the bottom half, if only because it’s a claim I made before the season started and it’s probably high-time I put my money where my mouth is!

LN: Is there a side which always lets you down?

When it comes to bogey teams, Everton certainly seem to be consistent in helping to write off my accas. I’m not sure what it says about me that I continue to back them with all the perseverance of a loyal fan.

LN: Biggest near-miss?

Backing Atletico Madrid ante-post at 66/1 to win the 2014 Champions League only to be denied by a Sergio Ramos equaliser in stoppage time!

LN: Do you have any luck on other sports?

I’ve had some tremendous luck – both good and bad – in the golf as well as horse racing markets.

Interestingly, a lot of that has to do with my reading of other blogs and doing my homework!

LN: What advice would you give to new punters

While I’ll unquestionably be at risk of sounding like an overbearing parent, I cannot stress the importance of keeping gambling fun.

Never bet what you can’t afford to lose, never chase your losses, and steer well clear of punting when you’re down in the dumps!
