3 reasons Dundee can win Ladbrokes Premiership six-pointer

The biggest clash in the Ladbrokes Premiership this midweek takes place at Dens Park, with both Dundee and Partick Thistle desperate to climb up the table.

With the hosts winless since August, their odds for this clash have drifted out to 6/4. But with a compelling case to be made for this being a home banker, Paul Hartley’s men could be the value bet of the weekend. Here’s why…

History points to home Dee-light

Dundee fans who have enjoyed by far the happier time in this fixture in recent seasons. The Tayside outfit have chalked up four wins in their past five meetings with Thistle, who have a solitary 1-1 draw to their name during that run.

You have to go back to early 2012 for the last time the Jags won this fixture – with the hosts on a magnificent seven-game unbeaten run against the Glaswegian club.

Thistle aren’t the best at ending difficult runs – as their 22-game losing streak against Celtic proves – so history suggests they’ll be leaving Dens empty-handed.

Hartley’s men unlucky of late

There’s no good way to spin a five-game losing streak, but Dundee have been competitive throughout the period and were unlucky not to take something from their meetings with Celtic, Aberdeen and St Johnstone.

They head into this one against a Thistle side winless in nine games in all competitions, and with a bad habit of conceding late goals.

With the hosts having netted in the last 10 minutes in two of their last four games, there could be plenty of value in Dundee to come from behind and win at 12/1.

Meanwhile, Rory Loy – who scored late on at St Johnstone last time out – is 11/2 to be the last goalscorer here.

Their strike force has to get going

Loy had seven Ladbrokes Premiership goals by the end of November last season, while Faissal El Bakhtaoui netted a brace in four consecutive games for Dunfermline Athletic. Oh, and new signing Marcus Haber hit double figures in English football with Crewe Alexandra in 2015-16.

With all that in mind, it’s only a matter of time before the 6/4 shots get their strikers on song and chalk up a vital victory – and all the signs point to that time being tomorrow night.

Thistle haven’t kept a clean sheet since August 6, though they have scored in four of their last five games, meaning the best bet of all could be on Dundee to win and both teams to score at 4/1.
